Wire Erosion

Wire erosion or electrical discharge machining is a highly accurate way of cutting complex shapes in a large variety of materials.

Because wire erosion is a non-contact process, it enables us to machine to very high tolerances and in very fine detail without distortion or stress being imparted on the work-piece. It also offers high repeatability due to the absence of tool wear.

Almost any 2D shape can be created using our wire erosion machine – from a simple square or hexagon to a highly complex toothed pulley form, spline or sprocket.

There are various practical engineering applications for which we use our wire erosion machine that include:

  • internal splines
  • internal gears
  • pulleys with non standard tooth forms
  • keyways
  • hexagonal drives, etc.

We can cut a large variety of materials on our wire erosion machine (basically any materials that are electrically conductive.) These include: titanium, tungsten carbide, stainless steel, various steels, brass, copper, aluminium, etc.
